Vengeons is a tiny hamlet surrounded by softly rolling countryside, criss-crossed by small, tree-lined fields and scattered farms. The delightful small town of Sourdeval is only 5 minutes away, with the kind of local individual shops that are only a memory in England. The larger, historic town of Vire is under 10 minutes drive away and offers, apart from the usual big town attractions, a large swimming pool with outdoor slides, a museum, canal and large bustling Friday market.
There are waterfalls and lovely panoramic views at nearby Mortain and a little further, Domfront has an attractive ‘old town’ and a ruined castle. Avranche, on the coast, has historic World War 2 associations and boasts a fantastic public park and gardens. Granville is a traditional, quaint, older seaside town with a harbour and fascinating old town section.
Vire has a beautiful river valley for lovely walks or cycling and a nearby damned lake offers some of the best salmon fishing in France!
A short distance away are the rocky gorges and river of the Swisse Normande. And if you enjoy mountain biking, we have bikes at reasonable rates and you can follow some of the trails around our own area, the Vire Valley or ‘Little Switzerland’.
